Shadows of the Southern Alps

New SmugMug Film

Our friends over at SmugMug have released a new film about this cool photographer named Bella Kotak. Hope you like it!

Daily Photo – Shadows of the Southern Alps

If you get out to Glenorchy early enough in the morning, you can see these amazing shadows from one set of mountains projected across the lake onto another set of mountains. One of the more stunning things about the mountains around Lake Wakatipu is how they have very steep faces jutting out of the water. It’s basically the same mountain shapes as in the fjords not too far away. If I’m not mistaken, all of this used to be a fjord at the beginning of the most recent ice age.

Spa in Chefchaouen

Anti-Vaxxer Expose

I saw this fun anti-vaxxer video on reddit… enjoy!

Anti-vaxxers exposed: Hidden camera investigation from r/videos

Daily Photo – Spa in Chefchaouen

This is the basement level of an amazing hotel I stayed at in Chefchaouen. I wish I could remember the name of it, but it escapes me at the moment. Whenever I am at a hotel with a really cool pool, I often regret not taking time for a dip. I’m usually out taking photos like a crazy person, so the luxury of having a swim is a bit off the radar. I did, however, take the time to have a Hamam. It was my first one with a Muslim woman who was wearing a headscarf the entire time while I was completely nude. She basically removed the entire top level of my skin and left me bleeding and crying like a little boy. But it was still great.

Another Day in Venice

This is what 320 Lasers Look like

I’m not sure what show this is, but these lasers are out of control!

that geometry tho from DMT

Daily Photo – Another Day in Venice

I gotta say, taking a decent photo in Venice is pretty easy. One challenge (if any) is to try not to get too many tourists that “stand out” in the photo. Removing all tourists is almost impossible, so I at least try to wait a few minutes until all the tourists in the photo are non-descript. That is, as you can see in this photo, you can see they are tourists around but they don’t distract from the main point of the photo.

Doors in Chefchaoeun

Kylo Ren Undercover Boss

Haha this is pretty funny.

Daily Photo – Doors in Chefchaoeun

I started taking photos of all the different doors in this amazing city in Morocco because each one was completely new and perfectly maintained, in a rustic sort of way. It sort of reminded me of all the unique camps at Burning Man and how the creators take pride in all their creations. Anyway, my plan with all the doors was to make some sort of collage or something that showed all the different doors in one photo. But, about halfway through the project, I thought this sounded like sort of a campy idea, so I abandoned it.

Weddings in China

Funny Comedian

I thought I knew all Mitch’s work, but this new one just surfaced!

Daily Photo – Weddings in China

I found a place in the Forbidden City that had about 20 brides there, all competing with their photography team for the best spots. It was quite a funny scene. They were extremely aggressive. A lot of Chinese people are really only looking out for themselves and want to make sure they have the best shots. It’s all kinda weird. One thing that is cool, however, is the Chinese wedding dresses. They are all completely different and most are wildly colorful like this one.

Daily Photo – Standing Guard in Rabat

Here’s a photo I just finished and I really like the way it turned out. I was in Rabat, Morocco, and visited this tomb just as it opened. There was almost no one around, and I gave the “international signal” asking if it was okay to take his photo. He gave me a mustachioed nod, so I took a quick one. Believe it or not, I spelled mustachioed correctly the first time… I was waiting for the red squiggly.

I was randomly walking around when I saw this teacher walk out of the classroom with her students. They were having a big party day. You can tell, because the teacher is wearing her party hat.

Daily Photo – Textures of the Li River

Finally, something not from the USA! I’ve been sharing a ton of photos from my USA tour recently… mostly because I’ve been away from home in NZ for three months and don’t have access to my mother lode of photos! I edited this photo for a few hours on the plane. I love using textures… I hope you try out the tutorial above and enjoy it too!

Stu Robertson in Antarctica

David Spade Ripping on GoT

This is hilarious.

Daily Photo – Stu Robertson in Antarctica

What a cool dude he is, eh? You know how some people don’t have to try to be cool and just ARE? Yep, that’s Stu all right! We spent a lot of time taking photos of one another… almost like two girls on Spring Break. Maybe we even took more photos than that.

This is out in the Dry Valleys where we camped out for about a week. One night, we were laughing so much in our tent that the other scientists thought we were on drugs. When we got up the next morning, many of them pulled me aside and asked if we had any extra drugs for them…hehe. (Uhhh we were not and did not… just two happy dudes.)

Daily Photo – Tribal Boy in Papua New Guinea

Check out this little badass! I think he probably could have killed me with his bow and arrow if he wanted to. However, he seemed to like me. After I took the photo I showed it to him and he gave me some sign like a thumbs up. It also could have been a fuck you, but I didn’t get that vibe.
