Manhattan from Redhook

Wanna see something weird?

Sure you do! Does anyone know what software they use to make this?

Daily Photo – Manhattan from Redhook

When I was out in Brooklyn a few months ago working on a commissioned piece, it gave me the chance to really get to know the area. I had always heard about this “Red Hook” part of Brooklyn but never really experienced it. Walking around is great, but getting up there with a drone is even better for getting a sense of the geometry of the place.

Up, Up and Away!

Dogs are Amazing

Check out this dog… it knows there is a baby in the belly. Thanks again, reddit, for blowing my mind!

Daily Photo – Up, Up and Away!

In the middle of the summer, I visited my friend’s ranch in Yellowstone. I stayed there for a bit over a week and it was an amazing trip! The ranch holds about 15 people, and every few days, a helicopter would arrive to bring more guests in and take other guests out. The horses on the ranch now are so used to it, they completely ignore the chopper and just chomp away on the grass.

More Notre-Dame in Montreal

Daily Photo – More Notre-Dame in Montreal

I wonder. Do they hire interior decorators to design cathedrals? I mean, I guess they must, right? They don’t get a bunch of priests and nuns to sketch out something in MSPaint. But then, I was trying to imagine, if I was a guy that was building a cathedral, who exactly would I contact to design a backdrop like this? Just not sure… these are the things I think about.

The Road to the Misty Mountains

Trey’s 360 Podcast – Kevin Kelly on The Long Now

As we walk the Camino de Santiago Kevin Kelly (founding executive editor of Wired magazine, check him out on kk.org ) and I talk about his passion project, the long now. Put in very simple terms, how we can live in a way that will benefit our descendants.

NOTE: If this is your first time seeing a 360 Video, note you can grab the screen and look anywhere!

And here is the audio version:

Daily Photo – The Road to the Misty Mountains

Here’s a view of the road along the west coast of New Zealand as it heads into the Haast area. It’s absolutely epic and I want to do more road trips in this area! You would not necessarily know it from this shot, but the best thing about this part of New Zealand are the trees. There are some of the most Dr. Seuss looking trees as you drive along the road. They look even more surreal when they are framed in fog.

Montreal from the Mountaintop

New Netflix Recommendation

Abstract! Watch it… the new season is out now. It’s a show all about art and design and I find it rather inspiring.

Daily Photo – Montreal from the Mountaintop

I’m not ashamed to go get photos from the obvious places in cities! Montreal backs onto this mountain/hill place. I’m not really sure if it qualifies as a small mountain or a big hill. Either way, there’s a perfect vantage point up there for photos of the beautiful city.

Pittsburg from Above

Daily Photo – Pittsburg from Above

When people ask me which city I was most surprised by during my trip to the US, I always say Pittsburg! I had no idea how beautiful it was. Anyway, it gave me another chance to experiment with a new technique, which you can see in today’s photo. Now, when I take cityscape shots, I purposefully cut off the top of the buildings so you can’t quite tell what city it is. From sharing travel photos from so many places around the world, I notice people really enjoy trying to guess where a place is. Showing the whole skyline, therefore, makes the photo a bit more predictable and boring!

Walking to the festival in Zimbabwe

New Show Recommendation

If you haven’t wanted “Succession” yet, be sure to put it on your list. It reminds me a little of “Billions,” but the writing and characters are even better.

Daily Photo – Walking to the festival in Zimbabwe

This is one of my favorite random shots from Zimbabwe. Check out this mother and son while they are walking to the big festival. I loved her white outfit and the shape of the lines across her body as they matched with her son. I’m not sure why she was wearing white; I should have asked her! 99% of everyone else at the festival was dressed in all kinds of fanciful colors.

Autumn Light in New Zealand

Mayan Warrior 2019

Here is one of my favorite art cars from Burning Man. It’s actually more than just an art car… their entire team amazing. Plus, whomever they get to make these videos is seriously talented! Check this out:

Daily Photo – Autumn Light in New Zealand

I love it when I get to introduce new people to New Zealand during my workshops! These are incredible events and we usually end up visiting Queenstown Gardens. There are so many different kinds of trees and the colors are completely ridiculous. Often times, we begin here in the gardens so that everyone immediately gets some good photos to share with friends and family back home.

Trey’s 360 Podcast – Kevin Kelly on the Wider Application of Burning Man Principles

NOTE: If this is your first time seeing a 360 Video, note you can grab the screen and look anywhere!

As we walk the Camino de Santiago Kevin Kelly (founding executive editor of Wired magazine, check him out on kk.org ) and I talk about how Burning Man might influence wider society.

And for the audio inclined…

Daily Photo – Exploring The Vessel at Sunset

I think the best time to visit this artistic beast is while the sun is setting. While there, a good challenge is to see how many different sorts of shots you can. The obvious one is to capture the whole thing with a wide-angle lens, but some of the more interesting shots are zoom-ins like this one. It’s kind of fun for me to wait for people to be in interesting positions to make the whole thing seem more alive.
