On the Way to Aoraki

MDMA Research

I came across this interesting article about MDMA Research. I’m a huge supporter of what MAPS is doing in their Phase 3 trials…pretty sure it’s a game-changer for treating depression, PTSD, and even helping well people have a better life.

Daily Photo – On the Way to Aoraki

About four hours away from my home is Aoraki (Mount Cook), and every drive is completely worth it. This was one of the first times I went in the winter and I was not disappointed. It’s almost impossible to get a bad photo there around there! The place reminds me a lot of Antarctica because it is so remote and raw.

Snowstorm in D.C.

Actual Reports from Travelers

Actually, I’m not surprised after traveling around a bit… I occasionally see these sorts of people at various locations.

They go on vacation to experience something new then complain that things are different from facepalm

Daily Photo – Snowstorm in D.C.

I recently posted this photo on social media and people really seemed to love it. I really did not expect that reaction! I mean, you never know what’s gonna be a hit and what won’t. You all know me… the reaction does not affect what I choose to shoot or post, but I do enjoy watching the reactions. It was so popular that I am putting in my upcoming book!

New York Reimagined

Great Podcast with Cappo about Yoga

I found this one very enjoyable! 🙂

Daily Photo – New York Reimagined

This is one of my very first HDR photos that became quite popular. I recently re-did it for a parallel-universe version. This one has more of a film-look. I’m not saying it’s better or worse, just different. I actually didn’t go back to all the original RAW files but instead did a re-edit of the final rendered photo from before.

Daily Photo – The Rugged Coast of Iceland

Here is another recent Iceland Edit. These are some of the hardest rocks in the world to walk on. Also, if you lose your footing and fall, you’re going to end getting sliced into a thousand pieces because the edges are like glass. I almost went out a little further on the rock, but I figured that if I slipped and fell, no one would find my body for ages. Either way, if you’re a Passport Member, you can see the edit for that here!

Hong Kong in the Fog

Team of Amateurs vs. one professional

This is hilarious.

Team of amateurs vs 1 NBA player from gifs

Daily Photo – Hong Kong in the Fog

This is a view of Hong Kong from my room there at The Ritz-Carlton on my last morning there. It was absolutely surreal to watch the fog roll in and out of the buildings on the other side of the river. I was on the “Kowloon” side and across the water there is the Hong Kong side. It was pretty fun taking the photo because the fog was moving very fast, hiding and showing different buildings every few seconds. So, rather than “guess,” I just took about 100 photos and found the best one later in Lightroom. I’m lazy like that. 🙂

Film View of The High Line in New York City

The Dream Episode 1

I think you’ll get hooked after Episode 1!

Daily Photo – Film View of The High Line in New York City

I recently re-worked a few of my older photos for an exhibition. There was to be a bit of a “film” feel, so I went back and used various cross-processing techniques for the shots. This is a process where you push the whites into one color space and the blacks into another. Every scene is completely different, so I may start with a preset but then push it into another direction.

The Hagia Sophia at night

Funny AVN Video

I’m not even sure how stumbled upon this… well probably Reddit, but it’s quite a crazy comedy interview video! (Maybe not for an office environment :D)

Daily Photo – The Hagia Sophia at night

I had a local friend from Istanbul take me to a cool rooftop restaurant for dinner one evening. We sat up there and dined through sunset and watched the Hagia Sophia as all the lights started to pop on. When the lights were just about perfect, I jumped up, set up the tripod, and grabbed this shot. If you have a chance to go to Istanbul, I definitely recommend it.

On the Way to Mount Cook

Funny Airline Video

Economy, for your comfort from funny

Daily Photo – On the Way to Mount Cook

If you’re up near Mount Cook on the South Island of New Zealand and want a cool reflection shot, here’s a tip! There’s a big lodge there and if you start driving on the roads behind it that seem to go nowhere, eventually you’ll find this water treatment area. I know… I know you expected a lake. And, I suppose, it’s sort of a lake, even if it is man-made. Anyway, because it’s so small, there’s a good likelihood of getting a clean shot.

Glacier Walk

Funny Mitsubishi Blooper Reel

This blooper reel should be the commercial!

The costume department had One job! from funny

Daily Photo – Glacier Walk

I don’t have a lot of photos of myself out in the field because, well, I don’t really want it to be about me. Does that make sense? Other people do that, and that’s fine… I just would rather remove myself from the visual equation. But, on this occasion, my friend Stu got a photo of me walking in front of the Taylor Glacier (I think that was the name?) in the Dry Valleys of Antarctica.

Atop Deer Park Heights

Can’t Trust the System

Daily Photo – Atop Deer Park Heights

Here’s a pretty view from when I took a workshop group up here one morning. The lake was like a huge mirror and perfectly still. I think we all walked around it a few times to get every possible angle. If you look over to the left, you can see, of all things, a North Korean prison. It was used for some terrible Disney movie decades ago. It’s since been demolished because people thought it was an eyesore, but I thought it was kinda cool!
