Across the Crown Range
If you ever come to Queenstown, there are two short drives I recommend. The first is to Glenorchy, and the second goes through the mountains below (see that green valley?), across the Crown Range, and into Wanaka.

There was a fresh dump of snow as I was flying back from San Francisco to Queenstown a few days ago. This is the last flight of the day that lands at the little airport with the strange callsign ZQN. They don’t allow any night flights currently because it is such a tight and dangerous landing… but this may change in the future.
