Daily Photo – The Forbidden City

Early one morning I decided to hike up the biggest hill in the middle of Central Axis to get a shot of the Forbidden City.

Once up there, it was an amazing view of the old city.  There’s not many cities in the world that have kept such a huge area so well preserved.  It’s about as close as you can get to time travel in the real world (so far).  And then, when the light is right in these strange hours, it is a completely transportive experience.

It was worth the hike. Beautiful colors. Did you add a texture to the sky? Looks like it.

This is really cool! I bet post processing was fun on this one. There are so many elements to tackle- the trees, rooftops, walls and the sky- Did this one take a lot of time? It looks superb at original resolution!

Yes – texture up there for sure

Great shot, Trey.  I’m curious to the reason for the texture on the sky.  Was it added due to a lot of pollution visible in the skyline and trying to cover that up or was it just one of those ones that screamed texture?

The forbidden city is amazing! I had a hard time getting shots there, because of all of the pollution/haze and got lost in the maze of passages. Anyways, great shot and really wonderful texture for the sky. It has a very painterly quality to it that makes it almost nostalgic.
