Fishing Hut

Side Roads

This is another example of taking a little side road. It’s hard to do this because the main road usually has such interesting sights. You say to yourself, “Why would I possibly want to get off this amazing road?” And then you force yourself to remember why… but you have to go through this same painful process again and again! :)

Daily Photo – Fishing Hut

Can I post two photos from Iceland in a row? I like to jump around from time to time.. but I guess this is a curveball or something.

One strange little thing about Iceland to me is the grass. It is the spongiest stuff in the world. Every step has your feet sink down and bounce up several more inches than expected. It feels a little like one of those giant blow-up-houses like the moonwalk when I was a kid.

Also, my shoes are always damp here. There seems to be a dew or moisture at the surface all the time, and it just coats everything. It’s not bad… just different.

Curving Around Iceland

HDR Video Tutorial

Things are still going great with the HDR Video Tutorial. This photo below is one of the ones I worked on during class. I had a few problems with it for sure, but I have since fixed them up using the stuff I talked about! Nothing is easy, I tell you…

Daily Photo – Curving Around Iceland

Iceland is pretty. Do I have to keep saying it? Maybe I do… you know… you know how a girl likes to be reminded in a gentle way all the time that she is pretty? Yes, I guess I can extend this to Iceland… so… you may tire of me saying it, but I’ll keep saying how pretty Iceland is.

Downtown Seattle

Failed Shoot in Seattle

As opposed to the situation below where things did work out, I had NO luck the rest of the time. I put up this little video showing some of the failure…

Daily Photo – Downtown Seattle

After arriving in Seattle, I immediately went to this spot to grab a photo. I barely made it in time. I had about 30 minutes of full light left before this scene began. It gave me just enough time to set up and frame everything with the right settings. I guess “last minute” sound a little dramatic, but, really, for me, I like to have some extra time to make sure all my settings are right before that magic moment hits.

Evening Light on the Remarkables

Nikon 28-300 Update

I think this is the 2nd or 3rd photo I have released that uses this lens with the zoom fully loaded… I still love this lens and use it about half the time. If you want to see more, see the full Nikon 28-300 review here on the site.

Daily Photo – Evening Light on the Remarkables

Misty and cloudy on the mountains… from this far away, it looks like a mist is blowing across the tops of the mountains. It makes it all appear more dramatic than perhaps it really is while you are there. But I guess there is this idea of relative drama. If you are actually there on the mountain, it’s probably quite mild and pretty. But, from way back here, dozens of miles away, it looks much more intense.

Boats on Lamma Island

Stuck In Big Cities?

This sometimes happens to me too. I get to a big city that has all sorts of interesting stuff, and I don’t take the time for little out-of-town excursions. I should try to do this more… I’m mostly writing this as a personal reminder to myself to do this sort of thing!

Daily Photo – Boats on Lamma Island

I don’t think many people leave Hong Kong to come visit Lamma Island, but it is a nice jaunt. There is a nice hiking path around the island and it ends at this little harbor. There’s lots of food and the reflections around sunset are a treat.

Work in Tokyo

Movement in HDR

How do I handle moving subjects in HDR? This is one of the most common questions I hear. All of that and more is answered here on the site inside the HDR Tutorial. Enjoy!

Daily Photo – Work in Tokyo

I set up here for an HDR multi-exposure shot, but then people started running into the office. I thought their running was so nice that I made sure to change my settings around a bit to capture the rush of it all.

I didn’t intend to spend so much time around this office building, but I ended up there for about an hour. There are so many nice lines and compositions with the sort of ultra-modern architecture you get in modern buildings…
