Evening in Malibu

Google+ Hangout Tomorrow with Lisa Bettany

Join me on Google+ today (Friday) at 1 PM PT (4 PM ET) for a live video hangout with Lisa Bettany. We’ll open it up to the public… we have no plan other than just sittin’ around and talkin’ photography. It’s very laid back, and you are welcome to join!

Daily Photo – Evening in Malibu

You know that feeling when it is a perfect dusk… and everything feels extra-nice because you know you’re going to have a great night? This is a good feeling…probably because it is so ephemeral.

I stayed in a pretty little hotel in Malibu. I’ve forgotten the name… maybe it will come to me in my old age… but it was just a short walk to this pier, and it looks great in almost any light. It made me think that if I lived by a dock, I’d probably have to visit it most every sunrise and sunset.

Gorgeous Trey! So crisp and clean and clear – beautiful colors – yes even I might get up for sunrise – sunsets are a given!

  • Great scene – I love my sunrises – I feel bad these days If I stay in my bed any later than 8am hehe!

  • Andy, I love sunrises… But sadly the only time I see them is when I don’t sleep haha. Last night for example, I went out on a spontaneous photography/hunting mission and didn’t end up getting to bed until nearly 6am πŸ™
So needless to say, today has been a slow one for me, haha. I’ll endeavor to be there for the Google hangout Trey, although I’m not sure what obscure hour it will be in NZ time πŸ˜‰

  • Thank you πŸ™‚

  • hey when did you take this? we have the exact same picture

  • No way — hehe… maybe you were with me… ! πŸ™‚ Maybe we are the same person! πŸ™‚

I am Trey Ratcliff…..YOU are Trey Ratcliff…..WE are Trey Ratcliff hehe! Sorry I couldn’t resist – these are amended lyrics from a spoof song I heard recently by the way! It was either this or let out a hysterical burst of laughter at my desk, which would have baffled my fellow employees, blew my cover and got me fired!

  • Hehe Andy.

Thanks for the feedback Johnny Woodpecker. BTW, that shuttle shot was a f1.4 not f1.2 – I misspoke on Leo’s show. They don’t even make a 1.2 for Nikon, I believe.

  • Cool shot Trey – its got a nice, mellow feel to it, yeah! I’ll have a bash at tuning in for the Google+ hangout… however, I’ve got a sneaky feeling that it’ll clash with our wee fella’s footy match this afternoon!
Regarding todays image – I had a similar feeling a couple of weeks back whilst driving home from the alpine village of Hanmer Springs. The light was beginning to fall perfectly, so I quickly pulled over and fired off some brackets… http://simonmorris.me/2011/07/14/ramping-down/

  • Im Trey Ratcliff..and so is my wife! Ok sorry Andy I had to take that a bit farther, from Monty Python I do believe haha. And I agree Trey, I would love to live by a dock…or any body of water for that matter lol, you did a great job capturing this one!

Btw Trey, you ever consider making a page or somehow organizing a place where all of us stuckincustom visitors could put our Google+ profile names? Id love to have a circle of all ya’ll…no pressure, but just an idea πŸ™‚

  • Nice soft colors, Trey. It would be wonderful to live near a dock like this.
On Flickr, you can always tell the people that live near one of these as they post pictures of them nearly every day. As would I.

Wow this is nice. Trey do you ever go on vacation and not take your camera? Could you ever leave your camera home?

  • Beautiful photo Trey. I know what you mean by having to visit every sunrise and sunset. For me, it happens to be a gate (long explanation), but when I see sunrises like this http://justshootingmemories.com/2011/06/08/the-road-home/ I can’t help stopping.

Nice photo! I’m trying to understand how the sun is lighting the the building at the end of the dock or is that a physical light between the buildings? Regardless, amazing capture as always.

  • Great photo Trey – even without the “actual” Malibu craziness. And I love this photo without all those “craziness” anyways πŸ˜€ Have a great weekend!

  • Let’s be honest, a pretty forgettable photo…

  • Wow.I live here and I’ve never seen this! Just Splendid. Trey, if you staid at the Malibu Inn I was part of that design team that did the remodel a few years back.

  • Trey, another great shot. Looks like Ken took that a few minutes after you. He must have followed you and found your tripod marks. And I think I like his rendition better; much warmer feeling.
