Army Men

Speaking of Christmas Toys…

Any great Christmas toy suggestions this year?  I’ve collected some unique toys from various countries (like, for example, these Chinese Chain-Puzzles) in my recent 80-day-around-the-world trip… but I was wondering if there was something else unique out there you all have stumbled upon?

Daily Photo – Army Men

We were walking around near some of the roller coasters in Disneyland when these army men came around the corner issuing a bunch of orders through the megaphone. Ethan and I were so surprised — I hardly had time to pull up the D3S for a quick shot!

Some of those days in Anaheim can get pretty hot… I don’t know how all these people in costumes can handle it. I guess it’s better than being one of the dress-up people in Orlando, though!

Super spur of the moment shot – they look almost like statues!

I love these dudes in the movie – i inwardly cheered when they made their triumphant comeback in Toy Story 3 :)

I hear that the larger costumes that these actors wear have air-con inside them so they would be fine although I’m stumped how these guys would cope in the California heat…..

Great photo, nice one Trey… is this a single shot HDR with auto-focus?

Great ‘action’ shot! The plastic look comes out really nice.

Simon – yes– they were driving pretty fast…. at this close, it would be way too hard to combine multiples

Very cool. The Army Men were my favorite part of the movies. Cool shot, I like how the uniforms look plastic.

Oh no, now a mine explosion in New Zealand!!!!! Will it never stop!! That was just a headline on the news, no details yet.
Now for the photo, great capture on the spur of the moment, Trey. I don’t know how they could stay cool in either place. Both are pretty hot in the summer when most people visit with their kids, except for the holiday times, probably. Thanks for sharing, glad YOU KIDS(and that’s not your) had fun at Disneyland. By the way, they didn’t have those characters when I was there in the 60’s, lol. That’s because I’m old but have fond memories.
Susan, I tried to download IE8, and it won’t download on Windows 7, is that crazy or what!!! Sorry all, peronal note.

Some of the larger costumes do have air conditioning. Disney is also very good about hiding A/C vents, too. For example, if you ever see the lions always perched on top of the same rocks at Animal Kingdom, the answer is because that’s where they put the A/C vent. Another thing they do is limit the character’s exposure to the heat. I’ve been told some of them are only out for 30 minutes. Of course, it’s only 65 degrees here in Orlando this morning, so maybe it’s not so bad this time of year.

Great shot! What lens did you use on this?

Thanks all! Matt – This was the 50mm 1.4 prime — I’m pretty sure!

I’m actually considering that exact lens for my D90. Would you reccomend it for the D90?
